Why full project management makes all the difference in a bathroom renovation
-
A fully project-managed bathroom renovation puts one team in charge of the design, products, trades, installation schedule and aftercare.
It reduces the homeowner’s workload by avoiding the need to coordinate separate suppliers, plumbers, electricians, tilers and fitters.
Planning the layout, pipework, drainage, electrics and product specifications before installation helps prevent avoidable delays and compatibility issues.
One point of contact makes it clearer who is responsible for resolving problems, from delivery issues and damaged products to unexpected site conditions.
A full bathroom renovation is easier to control when one team coordinates the design, products, trades, installation and aftercare.
Bathrooms bring a lot of connected jobs into a small space. The layout affects plumbing and drainage. Electrical work needs to be planned before walls and ceilings are finished. Tiles need the right preparation behind them, and products have to arrive in the right order.
With one company responsible for the full project, you have one team to speak to throughout, from the early decisions to any questions that come up during the work.
What does full project management mean in a bathroom renovation?
Full project management means one company plans, coordinates and takes responsibility for the main stages of the work.
Instead of joining up a retailer, designer, plumber, electrician, tiler and fitter yourself, you work with one team that understands the whole job.
At Watertight Bathrooms, the process includes:
An initial showroom consultation
A technical survey at your home
CAD design and room planning
Help choosing products, tiles and finishes
Installation booking and scheduling
Removal of the existing bathroom
Installation by the in-house team
Waste removal
Aftercare once the work is complete
The benefit is continuity. The people fitting the bathroom know what was agreed during the survey and design stages, and you have one point of contact throughout the project.

Why are bathrooms harder to coordinate than they look?
A bathroom may be one room, but it involves several trades and a lot of connected decisions.
Move a basin and the pipework may need to move with it. Change the shower tray and you could affect the drainage position, screen, tiling and available floor space.
The order of work matters too. Plumbing and electrical work need attention before walls are prepared and tiled, while wetrooms need drainage and waterproofing sorting beneath the finished floor.
Strong project management brings those decisions together before installation starts, when changes are much easier to deal with.
“A bathroom may be one room, but it involves several trades and a lot of connected decisions.”
A design appointment should be part of your full project management service from your bathroom company.
Buying a bathroom and hiring a fitter separately
Buying products from one company and arranging the fitting yourself can work, especially if you already know reliable local trades. But it does leave more of the coordination with you.
Someone still needs to confirm the layout, make sure the products are compatible and organise each stage of the work. Deliveries need checking too. A missing part, damaged item or incorrect measurement can delay the fitting team.
Responsibility can also be unclear if an issue overlaps with different parts of the project. The supplier might believe a product has been fitted incorrectly while the fitter could think the product or original design was unsuitable. You’re then left working out who needs to act and how the delay affects the rest of the schedule.
Separate trades also have their own diaries. If one stage runs late, the next person may be unavailable by the time the room is ready.
A fully managed renovation keeps the survey, design, supply and installation under one company, giving the entire project a clearer line of responsibility.
How Watertight Bathrooms manages the whole project
Showroom visit
The process starts at our Horsforth or Harrogate showroom.
The first appointment is a conversation about your bathroom, how you use it and what you would like to change. Some customers arrive with saved photos and a clear style in mind. Others just know the current bathroom is awkward or dated. Either is fine as a starting point.
You can look around the displays, compare finishes and see products from brands including Porcelanosa, Hansgrohe, Ca’ Pietra and Dansani. Seeing products in person helps with scale, colour and finish, especially when different materials need to work together in one room.
There is time to talk everything through over a cup of tea before any decisions are made.
Technical survey
Once the direction of the project is clear, a member of the team visits your home to complete a technical survey.
The survey records the room dimensions and looks at practical details like existing pipework, access and the condition of the space. It gives our design team a more accurate picture of what can be achieved and helps spot possible issues before products are ordered or the existing bathroom is removed.
CAD design and product selection
We create your bathroom design in CAD and invite you back to the showroom to talk it through.
You can see the layout, selected products and finishes together, rather than making each choice in isolation. This is the point to adjust storage, tile arrangements, shower sizes or the space around key fittings.
Once the design and specification are agreed, the installation is booked and the work is scheduled.
Installation and aftercare
Our employed in-house fitters carry out the installation. They usually arrive from around 8am, work tidily and remove waste from the job.
A full bathroom installation often takes 10 working days or more, depending on the room, its condition and the amount of work involved. The schedule is always discussed with you before work begins.
Because the installers are part of the same company, they can speak directly to the people who surveyed and designed the room. All the information stays with one team.
Private installations come with a two-year labour guarantee, while the products supplied carry their own manufacturer warranties.
A high quality finish can make all the difference to a bathroom renovation
What does one point of accountability mean for the homeowner?
Even a well-planned renovation can uncover something unexpected. Older homes sometimes hide unusual pipework, or a product can arrive with a fault or missing component.
What matters is having one team responsible for sorting any issues. With one company managing the project, the team can check the original survey, design, product specification and installation plan together. You don’t have to diagnose the problem or contact different businesses before someone takes ownership of the next step.
It also makes communication much easier. You know exactly who to call, and the person responding is aware of the full project rather than one small part of it.
Why credentials and guarantees matter
When you’re trusting a company with your bathroom renovation, you want to feel confident that the work will be done properly, any problems will be dealt with and you’ll have support after the installation.
We’re a family-run Yorkshire business, established in 2018, with more than 150 years of combined bathroom experience across the team. Our experience covers the whole process, from planning the room and choosing products to installation and aftercare.
We’re also a Trustmark registered contractor and approved to complete mobility bathroom work for York, Kirklees and Wakefield councils. These credentials give you added reassurance that our working practices and responsibilities have been properly assessed.
Every private installation comes with a two-year labour guarantee from the date of sign-off.
Questions to ask a bathroom renovation company
A good bathroom company should be able to answer practical questions clearly before you commit.
Ask:
Who completes the technical survey?
Who designs the room?
Who checks product compatibility?
Who orders and checks deliveries?
Who coordinates the trades?
Are the fitters employed or subcontracted?
What labour guarantee is included?
Who handles aftercare if something needs attention?
The answers will tell you a lot about how the project is likely to run.
Make sure to have a list of key questions to ask your bathroom company before you commit
Frequently asked questions
-
Somebody needs to coordinate the design, products, trades and installation. With a fully managed service, the bathroom company takes responsibility for that work rather than leaving the homeowner to manage each stage.
-
This depends on the service you choose. When you hire separate trades, you or your builder will usually coordinate them. Watertight manages the installation through its own team and provides one point of contact throughout the project.
-
It can work if you have reliable trades and are comfortable managing the project. A design-and-install service gives one company responsibility for the survey, design, products, fitting and aftercare.
-
Watertight installations usually take around 10 working days or more. The exact time depends on the size and condition of the room, the design and the work required.
